Reschedule My Immigrant / Diversity Visa Appointment
On this page:
Overview
The visa appointment system is intended for eligible immigrant visa applicants who have recently received written notification from the U.S. Embassy Kathmandu that they must schedule an appointment ‘Online’.
Who is eligible to reschedule an immigrant visa appointment
All immigrant visa applicants including diversity visa (Not including K, Expedited and Medical Hold visa applicants) are eligible to reschedule their immigrant visa interview appointment online if they have missed their original appointment scheduled by NVC or KCC, or have been asked by the Embassy to schedule a 221g follow up appointment.
If your answer is ‘Yes’ to any one or more of the below mentioned questions, you may reschedule an immigrant visa appointment online if the Embassy has asked you do so.
- I failed to attend the IV interview appointment scheduled by the NVC or KCC, and the IV Unit at the U.S. Embassy in Nepal has asked me to reschedule the IV appointment online.
- I am a follow-to-join IV applicant. The principal applicant has already applied for or been issued an IV, and the IV Unit at the U.S. Embassy in Nepal has asked me to make an IV appointment online.
- I have received notification from NVC that my case was forwarded to the US Embassy in Nepal, but I have not received an appointment date, and the IV Unit at the US Embassy in Nepal has asked me to schedule an appointment online.
- I have been interviewed, and have been asked by the IV Unit at the US Embassy in Nepal to schedule a 221g follow up appointment.
Please note, if you meet any of the following conditions, do not schedule an immigrant visa interview appointment online.
- You have been interviewed, and have NOT been asked by the Embassy to schedule a 221g follow up
- You have a future appointment date which is scheduled by NVC or KCC;
- You have not received any written instruction from the Embassy to schedule an appointment online.
How to Apply
The information below explains how to schedule an interview appointment online and what documents are required for the interview.
Step 1: Medical Examination
Complete your medical examination with an approved panel physician. The list of approved panel physicians can be found here. Please be sure to bring your sealed medical examination results with you to the Embassy.
Step 2: Filling Out the Immigrant Visa Electronic Application (DS-260)
Carefully read the guidelines for completing the Immigrant Visa Electronic Application (DS-260) before filling it out. All information must be correct and accurate. Once the form is submitted, you cannot make any changes. If you need assistance, you may consult a translator or immigration attorney. The call center cannot help you complete your DS-260. You will need the ten (10) digit barcode number from your DS-260 confirmation page to book your appointments. Please note, if you have already completed your DS 260 online application form, then you do not need to fill out the DS 260 form again.
Step 3: Creating A User Account and Scheduling Your Visa Appointment
Go to www.ustraveldocs.com/np and create a user account.
To create an account, you will need your passport. After creating the account, the system will prompt you to select Visa category and Visa class, enter Passport details, add dependents (applying together) and select a passport pickup location.
You are almost ready to schedule your visa appointment!
You will need the following information to schedule your appointment:
- Your passport number.
- The ten (10) digit barcode number from your DS-260 confirmation page.
- Case Number (KDU followed by 10 digits).
- Click on Schedule Appointment located on the left-hand side menu. This will start the process for scheduling your appointment.
Important notes for IV 221g Follow up Appointments:
- Different cases which have the same petitioner (for example IR-5 cases, IR-1/IR-2 cases, or CR1-CR2 cases) should not schedule separate appointments if they are applying together. They should only schedule one appointment and add all other applicants as dependents applying together when scheduling the appointment.
Step 4: Supporting Documents:
On the day of your interview, please bring the following items (originals, copies, and English translations of all civil documents):
- A copy of your NVC interview letter (does not apply to Diversity Visa applicants).
- The confirmation page for a completed Electronic Visa Application Form DS-260,
- Original Birth Certificates and a photo copy. Original or certified copies of birth certificates for all children of the principal applicant are also required.
- Marriage Certificates, Divorce/Death Certificates for all prior marriages and photocopies.
- If you are older than 16 years of age, the original police certificate from your country of current residence, countries of previous residence and photocopies. For more information on obtaining these certificates, visit Reciprocity by Country.
- Applicants must provide sealed medical examination results from an Embassy designated physician. The list of these physicians is available here. If the panel physician informs you that your medical reports will be transmitted electronically you will not receive the physical reports.
- Two (2) visa photos (front view) with white background (2x2 inches) of each person applying for the Visa. Photos must be un-cropped and without any editing or enhancements. Please click here for instructions. (See our photograph requirements.)

- Appointment confirmation letter.
For family based applications:
- An Affidavit of Support (form I-864) with all supporting documents from the petitioner and/or a qualified Joint Sponsor, click here if an original affidavit of support has not already been submitted to NVC in the United States. (An I-864 is not required if you are the child of a U.S. citizen under the age of 18.)
- If applicable, a contract between the Sponsor and a Household Member (I-864A).
For DV applicants:

- Documents showing that you have either a qualifying high school education OR have two (2) years of qualifying work experience in the last five (5) years immediately prior to application (for the principal applicant only; more information is available online).
Immigrant Visa Fees:
If your petitioner has not previously paid the immigrant visa application processing fee, you will be required to pay the fee at the time of the interview. The visa fee must be paid in cash (dollars or the equivalent amount in Nepali rupees). Please bring exact change.
NOTE: Please be sure to bring your sealed medical examination results with you to the Embassy. If you appear without your medical results, your appointment may be rescheduled, delaying your case. There is no need to bring your x-ray CDs to the Embassy. You are advised NOT to make travel plans or life-changing decisions, such as quitting a job or selling a house, until after a visa is issued to you.
If your case is conducted under the electronic medical form, you will not receive a medical report.
